Nike x Serena Williams
Extensive research went into Serena’s iconic court looks. I wanted to pull consistent trends from her looks. Each fit had a story and a meaning. It was fascinating seeing her broad range of fashionable bold, controversial looks. There is nothing that Serena has not already brought to the court. Denim, leather, and tutus are all things she has brought to the court. Wimbledon has even banned looks of Serenas from the court.
Sketching Process
I wanted to call back to Serena’s iconic 2018 Cat Suit that was banned from Wimbledon out of “respect of the game”. Serena is a major advocate for body positivity and pushing the sexist boundaries of sports. Following trends set by Serena I wanted to include some of her favorite silhouette’s while also keeping up with todays trends. Continuing with my sketches, I wanted the main bodysuit to be sheer mesh with panels of fabric stitched on top that follow the muscles of the figure. I wanted to enhance Serena’s strong presence to emphasize her power as an athlete.
