Discovery

When working in innovation it's key to research current revelations in technology and ongoing research in the medical field. Alzheimer’s & dementia affects 5.8 million Americans this number is projected to increase to 7.1 million people by 2025. One of my greatest fears is the possibility of my grandpa or dad developing Alzheimer’s due to genetic risk. Not only is it difficult for the person suffering but it’s devastating for surrounding loved ones. Being mentally and physically active can significantly reduce the chance of developing MCI & improve cognitive abilities.

Innovation & Research

The Art’s Therapeutic Transformative Effects

Art therapy activities help boost cognitive function enhance communication, brain function and social interaction in people with dementia.

Retinal Imaging Technology Diagnoses Alzheimer’s

A noninvasive eye imaging to detect Alzheimer’s disease. Scans the retina to find neurotoxic beta-amyloid protein deposits that are associated with the disorder.

a chip in someone’s brain could help treat neurological disorders. Improved neural interface technology like Neuralink’s could help better study and treat severe neurological conditions such as Alzheimer’s.

Caregiver Burnout & Depression

Research shows 83% of the help provided to those with Alzheimers comes from family members friends and other unpaid caregivers. Alzheimer's caregivers frequently report experiencing high levels of stress.

Ethnographic Research Findings

Conducting ethnographic research was critical to the development of remi. This would ensure that what I was creating something that would make an impact. I had the wonderful opportunity to interview Sid and Craig who lost their loved one, Nancy, to Alzheimer’s after spent years caring for her at home. They vocalized many important aspects as to what it was like living and taking care of a family member battling Alzheimer’s. They highlighted how everyone's experience with Alzheimer's is vastly different from the next person and how quickly progression could be and slow for others. They emphasized how emotionally the last five years were practically hell. Also their frustrations with treatments being virtually useless. Speaking to this family was eye opening to how important Alzheimer's research is and how challenging it is to care for a loved one with Alzheimer’s at home.

The Story

When coming up with the conceptual of remi and how to convey a story I wanted to create southing thats universal and inclusive. Something that can evict emotion in a concise way. I began my storyboarding process with something as simple as a dot but realized how that something as simple as that can be used to tell a story.

Brand Strategy

The keywords I wanted my app to convey were clean, colorful, and user-friendly. The name Remi shorts to reminisce an often nostalgic recalling of experiences long past, these memories are important, it's what connects us. I wanted the brand name to be friendly and inviting same with colors. Contrast, mood, & color associations were important to the user experience.
